Very handy list that!
*salute* Ping me if you come up with any I missed so list can be updated :)
Brilliant I have been collecting them too. I shall steal and compare and pass on - wonderful idea!
Thanks! And shareshare if you come up with any others! I like lists :)
Very nice. Just be careful, because I don't think playboy is a trope. When I think about tropes, I think they're more related to plot than a character's occupation. So IMHO, friend to lovers is a trope, for instance. But just because the guy is a playboy, a cowboy or a sheik that doesn't make it a trope. I think it's great to gather some ideas. I'd mention marriage reunion or accidental pregnancy, although there are similar ones. :))
I think you're right. Tropes and common settings/characters kind of muddle in my mind into one list of 'things we know and love'. Though I might argue that Sheik romance is a trope or a subgenre because of how popular/distinct they are. Not your usual royalty-related stuff.Maybe these need categorized: I) Pregnant Heroine a) Accidental, b) Other father, c) Secret Baby, d) Multiples
Really interesting. Plus its made me see what I like to read and try to write vs what I like to read but can't write. I shall keep that list as a reference!Nina x
There are some I don't read either and don't think I'd ever write. I love a good revenge story and I know not everyone does. My mom and I butt heads over whether or not Marriage of Convenience are cool(I dig them, she hates them).
Here's a few more... Blackmail, enemies to lovers, bait and switch (pretending to be someone else), opposites attract, redemption, older brother's BFF, across the tracks, oh and you could probably add cowboy to the list of sub-genres (like sheikhs, playboys, royalty etc).
Ohhh good ones! I am adding them by hand and trying to separate them into categories. This might take a while. I don't categorize well :D
