Revisions and Tatting

Sent my revisions off last night. No idea if they are in the ballpark of good, but I am feeling pretty pleased with the amount of work TrackChanges has allowed me to document. I took screenshots to show how much of it got changed from first submission. You know, so far.

Pink Tatted Top Hat Fascinator

And since I need a couple days to decompress and make stuff with my hands, and I'm exceedingly tired of scarves.... I'm making tatted top hat fascinators. Well, I've made two so far. The first version, the pink top hat, was a gift for my niece for Christmas.

Black Top Hat (Pattern)

Then I made another, in black for her mother(my SiL), who liked the pink one so well, I thought I'd surprise her. And I wanted to see if it was as cute. Of course it is. How can a tiny top hat not be adorable. The index card in the picture is shown for scale.

Have had a request for a friend of the family, something for her teenage granddaughter. So! Will whip that up before I dive into the writing again. Burgundy with a cream band and amber glass seed beads. Maybe feathers, we'll see on that count.

    1. I have no idea when it crosses the line from revision to rewrite. But I kind of think that was probably in the realm of rewrite.

And thank you! Tatting is my new obsession.

    1. HOPE SO. (Or trying not to hope so, because... you know, what if... Though I do think if HQN isn't sold, maybe someone else might want it...)

  3. Wow, congratulations! I've just been through my own revisions and I had almost as much redline as you.

Love those little hats. You should sell them in an etsy shop. They're really sweet.

    1. When I got ready to tackle the revs, I used green, purple and pink ink... it didn't look near as bad as the red Word forced on me.

      High-five on the revs!

(considering the Etsy store. Think I could make these into a heck of a bridal head piece with some hand-made netting for the veil, flowers and bows. NEXT. After the burgundy one)

  5. You are so talented! The hats are too cute, and your track changes looks like a crime scene. Good work there!

    1. Thanks, Maria :) We all have our talents. Mine are more right-brain focused, but when you consider how I suck at math, and logic... the scales are balanced. LOL

    1. Oh my, I've been bad about neglecting the blog. I tend to do that when I'm writing, one thing suffers or the other!

But belatedly: Thank you! I'm glad you like it. I think they're ridiculously adorable, and I've probably made five or six of them now.

I hadn't thought about writing up the pattern to sell on Etsy. I could, but there is a difficulty outside of the pattern. In order to make the lace stiff enough to stand and hold the hat shape, it has to be treated with some kind of fabric stiffener(gelatin, glue, etc), and it has to be on the form while drying.

I'm crafty and have had the benefit of sculpture classes... I built a tiny hat form to fit the pattern after I tatted the first one. I have no idea how to teach someone to do that bit! It was trial an error until, and general stubbornness until I got a form I could use.

I've thought about making some larger hats, but the idea of building another form makes me hesitate. Maybe I could go about that backwards: find bigger materials and make a form, and then figure out the pattern that would fit it. hmmmm
